Match Report: Bowers & Pitsea Ladies 0-1 Harlow Town Ladies

Harlow reached the Second Qualifying Round of the FA Women’s Cup with a narrow victory over Bowers & Pitsea. A goal from Georgia Box was enough to send the Hawks through.

Neither side dominated the early exchanges as both sides settled into game. A good one-two between Olivia Steele and Amy Nash allowed the Hawks to put the ball into the box but it was headed clear. A couple of minutes later, Bowers had a chance to break the deadlock but a touch from Whitney Locke was safely into the hands of the Lauren Nolan Coggon. There was a penalty shout for Harlow as Tayla Handscombe was brought down in the box but after looking like the referee was going to blow his whistle, he allowed play to continue.

Harlow found a foothold and controlled possession but they couldn’t find a way through. Despite controlling possession, a shot from Bowers was fired over the bar before a couple of through balls, aimed for Georgia Box, were cleared by the charging keeper. Juliett Thomas found some space on the right-hand side after latching onto a cross-field ball but her shot was into the side-netting before a shot from Shannon Moloney from a tight angle was just over.

As the game approached half-time, both sides looked to break the deadlock. Box was almost played through again but she was met by the keeper who managed to clear just before she reached the ball and Ash Deacon tried to poke the ball past the keeper but she was denied by good defending. Bowers also tried to counter through Ammarah Ali but the shot from Locke was fired wide.

It was Harlow who dominated the opening moments of the second-half but they could find the goal. Georgia Box was almost played through again but the keeper claimed well. A corner for the Hawks was spilled by the keeper but she collected at a second attempt.

As the half went on, neither side had a clear cut chance to open the scoring. Olivia Steele had a shot from distance but it was just wide. A cross from Bower was collected well by Nolan-Coggon before the pressure continued from Harlow. A corner was swung in and Ellie Manning went from an acrobatic effort but it was just over the bar before she fired toward goal from distance but it was just wide.

The deadlock was finally broken a minute later when Georgia Raby rolled a low cross into Georgia Box who tapped in from close range. The goal gave Harlow confidence as they continued to look dangerous. Bowers tried a couple of counters but nothing came of them whilst a driven shot from Kaydee King was into the arms of the keeper and two efforts from Handscombe in added time were just wide.
