A penalty kick was enough to see the home side through as Haringey Borough welcomed fellow-Isthmian league side Cray Wanderers to Coles Park. There was little to separate the sides in what a pretty even game as the hosts take a step closer to the FA Cup 1st Round for the second consecutive season.
It was Haringey was started off the quickest but an early attack was called offside within the first couple of minutes. Cray Wanderers had a penalty shout for hand-ball just before the 10 minute mark but it wasn’t given and all shouts were waved away.
The first half was an equal affair with neither side really threatening the opposition goal. Dimitri Foxylias cut inside but saw his shot fly over before a couple of scrambles in the box were badly dealt with and the home side were unlucky not to score. Cray Wanderers had a few chances themselves but couldn’t find the target. Mitchell Nelson headed towards goal but it was a comfortable save for the goalkeeper before Andre Coker cut into the box but sent his effort over.
The away side thought they had scored in the 35th minute when Karl Dentt tucked away an effort but it was ruled out for offside. Despite a couple of late chances for the hosts, the first half ended level at 0-0.
Haringey Borough came out the quickest from the break and dominated the first 15 minutes. There were a number of shots but a combination of good goalkeepering and narrowly missing meant it remained level. Lionel Stone had the earliest chance but fired his shot over before a shot was fired into the side-netting from the edge and Dimitri Foxylias was denied by the foot of Lewis Carey.
The pressure paid off and Haringey Borough were awarded a penalty in the 60th minute. Dimitri Foxylias stepped up and converted the penalty to break the deadlock.
Neither side could keep hold of the ball as the game went on but Cray Wanderers pushed for an equaliser. Haringey played a number of balls through but they were ruled out for offside while Cray Wanderers saw their efforts blocked and guided just wide from corners.
As the game reached the 90th minute, Cray Wanderers sent up goalkeeper Lewis Carey to try and get some thing from the corner but it was cleared and Haringey broke to try and kill off the game but Georgios Aresti send the ball just wide from his own half. Despite their best efforts, Cray Wanderers couldn’t find a goal and Haringey Borough won 1-0.
