Harlow Town were victorious in their second league game of the season as they beat a tough Royston side. A brace from Tayla Handscombe as well as goals from Ellie Manning, Georgia Raby and Amy Nash was enough to see Harlow win big.
Right from the off, Harlow dominated. Tayla Handscombe had the first chance of the game but she touched the ball just wide before a cross from Chloe Bassett was touched onto the bar by the keeper before being cleared. The Hawks were controlling play and a lot of play came from down the wing. Amy Drew did well to get down the right but her cross was deflected behind before Georgia Box came close as she got on the end of a cross but it was tipped over by the keeper.
The deadlock was broken in the 14th-minute when a shot from Tayla Handscombe was helped on by Ellie Manning who flicked its beyond the keeper. Box came close again but a shot was just fired past the post before Shannon Moloney went for the spectacular but it was inches wide. Royston Town had a series of corners but could profit from them before they tried to counter but Ellie Manning made a good challenge.
Tayla Handscombe doubled Harlow’s lead when she latched onto a superb pass from Manning and slotted well past the Royston keeper. Two minutes later, Tayla got her second of the afternoon when she fired a free-kick over the keeper and in. Despite being 3-0 behind, Royston continued to come forward as they looked for a way back into the game. Their 11 unleashed a shot from outside the box but it was saved well by Sarah Walker before they scored 6-minutes before the break. A corner from the 11’s shot dropped in the box and was stabbed home. A shot from Chloe Bassett was just wide before she delivered a ball to Box who fired over from the edge.
It was Royston who had the first effort of the second half but their effort was comfortable for Walker. The Hawks tried to increase their lead but an effort was sent wide by Georgia Box before a header from Olivia Steele was inches wide of the back post.
The visitors stepped up the pressure in the 70th-minute but they couldn’t find a way through. Moloney fired in a free-kick but it was off the bar before a free-kick for the Crows was held by Walker. Georgia Raby got onto the scoresheet when she beat the offside trap and rolled her shot beyond the keeper.
With four goals scored, Harlow continued to attack as they sought more goals. Ash Deacon saw her shot curl just wide of the target before it was 5 for Harlow in the 90th-minute. Amy Nash unleashed a shot from distance which looped over the keeper’s head. Despite a header from Royston’s 18 in added time, the game finished 5-1.
