Goals from Bobby Breen, Hasan-Muzib Mahedul and Micah Hylton ensured Harlow Town Reserved got the three points against a strong Hullbridge Sports side on Friday night. Both sides had their fair share of chances but it was the hosts who were more clinical in front of goal and were rewarded by leap-frogging the visitors to sit in 3rd ahead of the remaining fixtures in the gameweek.
Both sides tried to get off to the best possible start but it was the visitors who had the stronger start and within 5 minutes, they were ahead. Luca Frankis was played through before slotting it past the Harlow keeper. The first shot for the hosts came a minute later but it was a comfortable save from distance before Micah Hylton had the ball in the back of the net but it was ruled out as he had been deemed to have obstructed the goalkeeper after it deflected off his back into the goal. Despite a better start from Hullbridge, Harlow Town started to find their feet and began to push for an equaliser. They tried to play the ball through on a number of occasions but it was well defended from the visitors.
A shot from Ryan Wyatt was fired across goal for the visitors but no one was close before a header from Harlow was just wide. With 15 minutes of the half left to play, Harlow found their equaliser. Dillon Gordon lifted a free-kick into the box but the ball was missed by the approaching keeper and tapped in by Bobby Breen who found himself with an empty net.
As the first half approached it’s end, it was the home side who dominated the chances. A free-kick from Dillion Gordon was just wide of the target but sent the keeper scrambling before Micah Hylton saw a shot saved on the goal-line and a header go wide whilst Yuan Kombi headed just over the bar for the visitors. The teams went into the break level.
The second half was very much the same as the first with both sides trying to get off to the best possible start. A shot from Courtney Homas for Hullbridge was over from distance whilst Hasan-Muzib Mahedul saw his shot blocked after the ball pinballed in box. The visitors thought they had taken the lead around the 50 minute mark after Yuan Kombi rounded the keeper and was presented with an open goal but it was miraculously blocked on the line and Harlow took the ball down the other end and took the lead after Hasan-Muzib Mahedul curled the ball past the keeper.
The home side continued to dominate after taking the lead. Mahedul almost scored Harlow’s third before Said Issa was denied by the fingertips of Joshua Hudson and a header was just wide. There was a chance for Hullbridge but Luca Frankis couldn’t find the target and sent his head just wide but it was the Hawks who looked most like scoring. Hasan-Muzib had one of the best chances of the game when he was played through but he tried the ball over before Micah Hylton increased the hosts lead when he tapped in at the far post after Hudson missed the ball.
As the game reached the final 5 minutes, both sides pushed for more goals. The visitors had a shot fly over the bar whilst a ball across the face of goal from Haziz Kone was too strong for anyone to get onto the end of. Hullbridge pulled one back in added time at the end of the 90 when Luca Frankis tapped the ball into the back of the net after it was parried into this path.
Despite the late goal, Harlow Town held on and claimed all three points under the lights!
