There was no giant-killing for Tonbridge Angels as League Two Bradford scored 7 past their opponents. A brace from Billy Clarke as well as goals from Anthony O’Connor, Harry Pritchard, Clayton Donaldson, Connor Wood and Austin Samuels were enough for a thrashing of the lower opposition despite Angels best efforts.

Right from the off, Bradford looked to break the deadlock. In the early moments, a cross from Billy Clarke was headed clear before a shot was well held by Jon Henly in the Tonbridge goal. Clarke delivered a corner into the box but it was headed clear before Elliott Watt had a shot from the edge of the box blocked. The early pressure paid off for the Bantams as they scored in the 6th-minute. Anthony O’Connor got onto end of a cross and headed beyond Henly. Tonbridge had a brief spell as they came forward but Kristian Campbell fired a shot just wide of the target.

Bradford were almost in for a second as Pritchard received a ball over the top but his effort was onto the roof of the net before they did have their second two-minutes later as Billy Clarke fired a superb free-kick into the top corner from the edge of the box. Reece Staunton made a great run through the defence but a good challenge prevents a third. The hosts struggled as they were kept on the back-foot for the majority of the first-half. Donaldson couldn’t get a touch on Pritchard’s ball across the face of goal before Elliott Watt’s shot was blocked and Donaldson headed into the hands of Henly. As the half ticked away, Tonbridge applied some good pressure with a long throw but nothing came of it before it was back to defending for the Angel’s. Bryce Hosannah struck the ball at a Tonbridge defender but his shouts for handball were ignored before his cross was held by Henly.

Tonbridge looked to finish the half strongly. Jack Parter tried his luck from distance but his shot was just over before the hosts came close as Alex Akrofi shot towards the far post was inches wide. Despite the pressure, Bradford extended their lead on the stroke of half-time as Billy Clarke scored another with a header beyond Henly. The Angel’s felt they should have been awarded a free-kick as Akrofi was pulled back by Donaldson but the goal stood despite their protests.

Bradford made a quick start to the second-half as they looked for a fourth in the opening minutes. Bryce Hosannah pulled back to Pritchard but his effort was well blocked by Henly. Tonbridge looked better in the second-half as they came forward but O’Donnell matched the shot with a good save to deny the hosts. The 56th-minute saw Bradford get their fourth of the game as Clayton Donaldson tapped home from close range before the hosts had a chance through Turner but the shot was comfortable for the keeper.

The visitors continued to look for more goals against the National League side. Callum Cooke fired a shot against the post before Henly make a great save with his face to prevent the ball going beyond him while Tonbridge were unlucky as a corner was off the bar and a header from Campbell was cleared off the line. A minute later though, Bradford punished Tonbridge with their 5th of the game as Arthur Samuels lifted the ball over the diving keeper. Clarke was almost in for his hattrick but his shot from the edge was well held by Jon Henly. As the game reached the final 10-minutes, Tonbridge hadn’t given up as they looked for a consolation goal. A corner was caught on the line by O’Donnell.

The lead for the visitors was further extended as they Harry Pritchard got his goal. An initial shot from Pritchard was well saved but the ball came back out to Samuels who fed it back to Pritchard who slotted beyond Henly. Joe Turner looked to pull one back for the hosts as he latched onto a loose pass but his effort was just over the bar before Tom Beere lined-up a free-kick in the last minute but it was struck straight at the wall with his rebounded effort being fired wide. Bradford’s 7th came in the first-minute of added time as they rounded off a professional performance. The Bantams were queuing up in the middle with Connor Wood getting the final goal.
