I never thought I would be writing about football in my spare-time. It simply never crossed my mind. I have always love football – following both Tottenham Hotspur and Leyton Orient from a young age. I wanted to enjoy non-league football a bit more and began making the trips to several grounds to enjoy this. I used to play football on a Saturday and Sunday but due to a persistent ankle injury, I knew it would be best to avoid playing – I was also aware that I was nowhere near good enough to play football for longer – but I wanted to do something with football.

When I decided to take my writing further and get in contact with some local clubs, I was lucky enough to recieve some word from Isthmian Premier Division side Haringey Borough to be allowed to provide content around them games. I started my own blog covering news, match reports and interviews around Borough and even had a couple of pieces in the matchday programmes and a lone piece in the Non-League Paper. My time at Haringey, made me fall in love with writing about football.

My time at Borough only lasted til the end of the 2018/19 season, covering a handful of games but I was determined to do the same the following season in a more full-time capacity. During the summer, there was no word from Borough or response to my emails regarding a more permanent role. It was gutting but I didn’t let it get me down. I began looking for another club. I contacted a number of local-ish clubs including Potters Bar and Enfield Town, but it was Walthamstow who were first to respond and keen for my to join. After they had looked at pieces I had written, I was offered the role which would see me write match reports, contribute to the programme and conduct interviews.

The first time I met everyone was when the players returned from their summer break ahead of pre-season; meeting Ryan Maxwell (manager), Andy Perkins (Chairman) and Andrzej Perkins (Media Guru) before conducting a number of interviews. I was welcomed with open arms to a club that felt close to my heart – I had grown up in Walthamstow so the fit felt right.

Since then, I’ve spend the 2019/20 season writing for the club and making friends for life at the club. I’ve spend the rest of my spare time (when Stow ain’t playing), watching other Essex Senior League games and other leagues and covering them on this blog. After meeting Jake Murphy (Foghorn) at a pre-season game, we had a mutual love for the game and soon began the Foghorn and Moore Chapter of our “careers”, providing live commentary and coverage of many non-league games (particularly for Harlow Reserves and Harlow Ladies).

I thank everyone who has shown support since my time at Borough and hope I can continue to write for the club I love and other non-league games.
