Preview: Bowers & Pitsea LFC vs Harlow Town LFC

Following last Sunday’s superb league victory over Royston Town, the attentions of Harlow turn to Bowers & Pitsea and the FA Women’s Cup.

Harlow remain unbeaten this season after 4 games in two competitions. The first game of the season saw them face Runwell Sports in the Extra Preliminary Round, winning 6-0, before they faced their toughest league away game on the opening day with a trip to Peterborough Northern Star. Despite going 2-0 down, Harlow were victors as Fran Gamble scored in the 86th-minute to clinch the three points. Another away FA Cup game saw Harlow face fellow-league side Colney Heath. Harlow came back from 3-2 down to win 4-3 with Georgia Box scoring an 88th-minute penalty. The last game they played saw a cruising 5-1 victory over a tough Royston side.

The Hawks are only two wins away from where they reach in last season’s FA Cup. They started in the Preliminary Round of the FA Cup with a win over AFC Sudbury, winning 8-0, before being drawn against King’s Lynn Town at home. There was no mistake as Harlow progressed winning 3-1. The ladies scrapped past Wroxham, winning 4-3 after Extra-time before their run came to an end to Billericay Town in the Third Qualifying Round. It was narrowly lost 2-1 against the National League side.

Bowers & Pitsea have only played three games this season. They began with a league game against Wroxham, losing 4-3 before they progressed in the FA Cup with a 5-0 win over Garston. Their second league game also ended in defeat as they lost to Peterborough Northern Star.

Bowers also reached the Third Qualifying Round last season. They beat Hitchin Belles 6-1 in the Preliminary Round before beating AFC Dunstable 3-2 on penalties following a 2-2 draw. In the Second Qualifying Round, they narrowly beat Maidenhead United, winning 2-1 before their run came to an end in the 3rd Qualifying Round, losing 3-0 to fellow-league side Luton Town.

Last season, Harlow won both games against Bowers in the league. The game at the Harlow Town Arena finished 16-1 before the reverse fixture was won 3-2. This is going to be a tough game for both sides.
