Following Harlow Town’s comeback win last week, they will now turn their attentions to the FA Cup as they travel to St Albans to face Colney Heath. The Lady Hawks will look to have another incredible run in the FA Women’s Cup as they face fellow-League side Colney.
Harlow’s win at the weekend saw them come back from 2-0 down to claim their first three points of the season. Ashleigh Deacon found the back of the net on her debut for the club on the stroke of half-time after replacing Ellie Manning in the 45th-minute. Two second-half goals from Fran Gamble turned the tie as Dean Perrett continued his run of remaining unbeaten domestically for 18 months. The Hawks also reached this stage of the FA Cup after they defeated Runwell Sports in the FA Cup Extra Preliminary Round.
Harlow had entered at this stage last season on their incredible run as they beat AFC Sudbury 8-0 before being drawn with King’s Lynn Town in the First Qualifying Round. They defeated Town 3-1 at home before also beating Wroxham at home. The game had finished 4-3 after extra-time and Harlow welcomed Billericay Town to the Harlow Arena in the Third Qualifying Round, as the Blues ended the Hawks run.
Colney Heath were also victorious in their opening league game as they defeated AFC Dunstable by 3-goals to one. A brace from Lily Hall and a goal from Christina Freestone was enough despite a goal from Dunstable’s Hannah Ring. Heath also had an FA Cup Extra Preliminary Round victory, beating Herts Vipers 2-1. Lily Hall was again on target as well as Mia Pinkham.
Last season, Colney Heath had reached the First Qualifying Round. They defeated Beford 3-1 before they were drawn against Royston Town. Town were too strong for them as they ran out 5-2 winners to eliminate Colney.
Due to a shortened season, Harlow and Colney Heath didn’t get to play each other in the league so it will be a tough test to judge. Both sides will hope to reach the Qualifying Rounds once again but one will be left disappointed.
