Preview: Essex & Suffolk Border League Division One

Football is finally back and so is a full schedule in Division One of the Essex & Suffolk Border League. Stanway Rovers Reserves are the only side to be without a game this Saturday due to the uneven number of teams in the Division but there is still plenty of football to watch.

Boxted Lodgers vs Mersea Island – Saturday 5th December, 2pm

Boxted Lodgers get their season back underway as they welcome Mersea Island to the King George Playing Fields. The hosts find themselves 16th having picked up 3-points this season with 1 win and 7 losses whilst the visitors sit in 12th after 7-games, having won 2, drew 1 and lost 4. It’ll be difficult to say who will come out of the lockdown stronger but a win for the Lodgers could take them up to 14th and away from the foot of the table while a win for the away side could lift them up to 10th.

Coggeshall United Reserves vs Belle Vue Social Club – Saturday 5th December, 2pm

Coggeshall United Reserves face a tough test as they welcome league-leaders Belle Vue on the first game back since lockdown. The Reserves find themselves 6th after 9-games, having won 4, drew 2 and lost 3 but they go up against a side that remain unbeaten having won 7 out of 7. Belle Vue will hope to continue where they left off but Coggeshall United will hope to start the resumption with a huge win. A win for the hosts could see them rise to 4th in the table while Belle Vue could open their gap at the top to 4-points with two games in hand.

Cressing United vs Dunmow Town – Saturday 5th December, 2pm

A derby on the first weekend back will see Cressing United welcome Dunmow Town to Cressing Sports and Social Club. Cressing United sit 10th after 8-games, having won 3, drew 1 and lost 4 whilst Dunmow find themselves in 8th after 7-games, having won 4 and lost 3. Both sides will want to restart with a win, especially in a derby so it will be a tough match for both sides. A win for United could see them move above Dunmow and into 7th whereas a victory for the Royals could see go up to 6th in the table.

Hedinghams United vs Stanway Pegasus Reserves – Saturday 5th December, 2pm

Hedinghams United will welcome Stanway Pegasus Reserves to Lawn Meadow on Saturday for the club’s first game back. Hedinghams find themselves in 14th after 8-games with 2 wins and 6 losses whilst Pegasus are 9th after 8-games, having won 4, and lost 4. Holland A vs Gosfield United – Saturday 5th December, 2pm

Holland A will host Gosfield United at home on Saturday. The hosts find themselves in 15th having just won 1 of their first 10-games while Gosfield United are 11th with 3 wins, 1 draw and 4 losses. A good (re-)opening game with could push both sides on for the season with Holland having the opportunity to go up to 12th in the league while Gosfield could find themselves up to 7th.

Shrub End United vs FC Clacton Reserves – Saturday 5th December, 2pm

Shrub End United will welcome FC Clacton Reserves to the Shrub End Sports Ground on Saturday. Shrub End find themselves 7th after 8-games, having won 4, drew 1 and lost 3 while FC Clacton Reserves are 2nd, a point behind Belle Vue, after 9-games with 6 wins, 2 draws and 1 loss. FC Clacton will want to keep up with the league leaders while the hosts will hope they can move up the table. United could find themselves 5th whilst FC Clacton could stay second or even leapfrog the team at the summit with a win at the weekend.

Silver End United vs Alresford Colne Rangers Reserves – Saturday 5th December, 2pm

3rd-placed Silver End United will welcome the Reserves of Alresford Colne Rangers to the Silver End Village Hall on Saturday. The hosts find themselves 3-points off the top after 8-games, having won 6 and lost 2 while their opponents sit a point below in 4th-place. The away side have won 5, drew 2 and lost 1. Both sides will hope to boost any title hopes they have with Silver End having the opportunity to go top (if results go their way) while Alresford could rise to 2nd and close the gap on the leaders.

West Bergholt Reserves vs Tiptree Jobserve – Saturday 5th December, 2pm

Tiptree Jobserve will travel to league strugglers West Bergholt Reserves on Saturday. The hosts find themselves bottom after 6-games having lost 6 out of 6.
