Preview: Harlow Town LFC vs St Ives Town LFC

Harlow Town will look to bounce back from their first league defeat as they host St Ives Town in the FA Women’s Cup. Harlow are one win away from reaching the Third Qualifying Round for the second consecutive season but have St Ives standing in their way.

The Hawks began their FA Cup run in the Extra Preliminary Round with a visit to Runwell Sports. A brace each for Olivia Steele and Georgia Box as well as goals from Chloe Bassett and Daisy Jenkins helped them onto a 6-0 win before they faced Colney Heath. Goals from Chloe Bassett, Vikki Wotton, Olivia Steele and Georgia Box were enough for a 4-3 win over the Magpies sending them through to face Bowers & Pitsea. A single goal from Box was enough as Harlow narrowly beat their second fellow-league side.

Last season, Harlow started off in the Preliminary Round where they beat AFC Sudbury 8-0 away from home. They were drawn at home to King’s Lynn Town and were 3-1 victors in the First Qualifying Round before facing fellow-league side Wroxham in the Second Qualifying Round. The Hawks won 4-3 after extra-time before their journey came to an end in the Third Qualifying Round after losing 2-1 to National League side Billericay.

St Ives Town also started in the Extra Preliminary Round. A hattrick from Katie Stancombe as well as braces from Ruth Fox, Abbi Griffin, Hannah Seymour-Shove and Georgia Stancombe as well as a goal from Ella Burnley helped the Saints onto a 12-0 win over Hartham United. They were drawn away to Histon Ladies in the Preliminary Round as a brace from Elisabeth Manuel as well as goals from Seymour-Shove and Georgia Stancombe were enough for a 4-2 win before a narrow win over Northampton Town helped St Ives into the Second Qualifying Round.

Last season, St Ives didn’t make it through the Preliminary Round as they were defeated by Histon, losing 1-0.

Both league games managed to go ahead last season with a draw and a win for Harlow. Harlow Town beat St Ives 9-0 before spoils were shared in a 2-2 draw. This will certainly be a tough game for both sides as they look to go within a win of the First Round Proper.
