Following Saturday’s FA Vase win over London Lions, Walthamstow turn their attentions to the league as they travel to Lowfield to take on Hoddesdon Town.
Walthamstow are 5th in the Essex Senior League after 6-games. The Stags have won 4 and lost 2. The season began with a 3-1 win over Sporting Bengal United before the first two home games ended in defeat, losing against Stansted and Southend Manor. The defeat was put behind Stow as they won their last-3 games. A 3-1 win over West Essex as Mayesbrook Park as well as a 2-1 win over Hashtag United and a 3-1 win against Woodford Town at the Lodge.
During the 2019/20 season, Walthamstow were one of the favourites for promotion. After 26-games, Walthamstow were 3rd, two-points behind Hashtag United and 3-points behind Saffron Walden Town, although, both Hashtag and Stow had 3-games in-hand over leaders Walden. They had won 20, drew 3 and lost 3.
Hoddesdon currently sit 8th after 6 games. They began the season with two away games, losing against Cockfosters and winning against Takeley. Town returned home to face West Essex and Enfield, again losing one and winning one. They were defeated 3-1 against West before beating Enfield 5-3. The Lillywhites scored another 5 against Ilford as they beat the Foxes 5-2 at Cricklefield before drawing 1-1 with Clapton.
Last season, Hoddesdon were 7th having played 27-games. They picked up 11 wins whilst losing and drawing 8. Teams around Hoddesdon had games in-hand so if the season had continued, they may not having finished 7th.
The clubs played two-games were won by Walthamstow. They welcome Hoddesdon to the Lodge first, winning 2-1 with Benji Crilley scoring the winner in 89th minute before winning 2-0 at Lowfield later in the season. It will certainly be a tough game for both sides.
