With only two pre-season fixtures to go before the first competitive game of the season, preparations for Max Mitchell and Walthamstow will certainly intensify. The first of those two games sees Stow travel to Hertfordshire as they take on Tring Athletic.
Walthamstow have won 2 and lost 4 so far during their pre-season, having faced some tough opponents. A win over Harpenden Town at the Lodge gave Stow a good start. It wasn’t easy as they lost the next two games, away from home. Bearsted were victorious by 2 goals to nil whilst Wingate & Finchley scored a 90th minute goal to win 3-2. The winning feel was back with the Stags when they beat Halstead 2-1. As Stow returned to the main pitch at the Lodge but found it tough against Isthmian League and Southern League opposition. It was a narrow lose to Barking as a single goal was just about enough for the visitors before Welwyn Garden City left East London with a 4-1 victory after a tough afternoon.
Having cancelled a number of friendlies, due to the grey areas around the COVID guidance, Tring Athletic have only played one friendly to date which saw them lose 5-1 to Hemel Hempstead.
It will be difficult to see how either team will perform. Tring have not played many games and Walthamstow have found it hard against stronger opposition. There is no doubt both sides will look for wins in their next pre-season fixtures as the FA Cup begins on September 1st for both. This should be a good game!
