Preview: Walthamstow vs Enfield Town

Walthamstow go into their final pre-season friendly on Saturday as they welcome Enfield Town to Wadham Lodge. Having be scheduled to play to Tring Athletic on Tuesday, the game was cancelled, meaning preparations was kept to training rather than a match.

Max Mitchell has led his side through 6 friendlies as he prepares for his first full season in charge. It began with the visit of Harpenden Town with Stow winning 2-1. That was followed by three trips away from home. Losses against Bearsted and Wingate & Finchley gave Stow something to think about before they got back to winning ways against Halstead Town. The last two friendlies were played at the Lodge. Barking narrowly beat Walthamstow by a goal to nil before Welwyn Garden City left East London with a 4-1 victory.

Enfield Town play their football in the Isthmian League Premier Division and have also played 6 friendlies. Their record reads; Won 2, Drew 1, Lost 3. Town began with four games at home. They lost 3-2 to both Panteleimon FC and Brentwood Town before getting their first win against Chelmsford City, winning 3-1. That winning feeling was ended against Hertford Town. Grays Athletic welcomed Town for the clubs first away game of the season in which they won 3-1 before their last game was a 1-1 draw against Steve Castle’s Royston Town.

The game will mark different stages of pre-season for both sides. As the last game for Walthamstow, they will be hoping to make the most of giving the players minutes whilst also trying to build momentum before the season start. Enfield Town are still going through their pre-season preparations and will have an additional three after Saturday’s game. The next game for either club will be a trip away to Barking FC for Enfield in a friendly whilst Walthamstow will welcome London Lions to East London in the FA Cup. It should be a good game!
