Preview: Walthamstow vs Great Wakering Rovers (FA Cup)

After a fantastic performance against fellow Essex Senior League side Sporting Bengal United in the previous round, Walthamstow booked a place in the Preliminary round where they will face Isthmian League North Division side Great Wakering Rovers.

Walthamstow have done incredibly well this season, winning all 3 games so far and are yet to concede a single goal. They began league action against Tower Hamlets, beating them 7-0 before facing a Stubborn Stansted side but still managed to get a win after a great goal from forward Dwade James. In between league action, Stow faced Sporting Bengal United and beat them 5-0.

Great Wakering Rovers are a league (therefore a level of the English Football Pyramid) above Walthamstow. The Rovers have only played one competitive game this season, beating Felixstowe and Walton 4-1 and were given a BYE in this years FA Cup Extra Preliminary round.

This will certainly be the toughest game of both clubs season and based on leagues alone, Great Wakering will be the favourites for this one. The lack of competitive football this season will not affect such a top team, that’s for sure.

Despite that, this should be a very competitive and physical game with both sides wanting to reach the 1st Qualifying round. Get down to Wadham Lodge this weekend and support both clubs as one looks to continue their FA Cup journey.

Up the Stow!
