Following last Friday’s win over West Essex on the road, Walthamstow will welcome Hashtag United to the Lodge. It is arguably one of the biggest games this week as an unbeaten Hashtag United go up against their predicted title-rivals.
Walthamstow currently sit in 7th-place having won 2 and lost 2 of their four games. The season began with a victory over Sporting Bengal United at Mile End as goals from Charncey Dash, Jon Clements and Sam Jeremiah helped Stow onto a 3-1 win. Despite winning their first game, the games against Stansted and Southend Manor at the Lodge ended in defeat. Dash had given Stow the lead against the Airportmen but it wasn’t enough as the visitors scored two goals to win it before Stow were 2-1 against Manor before losing the game 3-2. It was back to winning ways for the Stags on the road against West Essex though as they came back from 2-0 down to beat West with goals from Callum Ibe, Conor Scully and Jon Clements.
Last season, Walthamstow were one of the favourites to go up. After 26 games and before the season was cut short, Stow had won 20, drew 3 and lost 3 whilst scoring 73 and conceding 17. The Stags had started the season with 12-games unbeaten before they were defeated by Takeley. They had lost a further two games whilst winning a further 10 and drawing one additional game. They also sat 3-points behind leader Saffron Walden with 3 games in hand due to their involvement in the FA Cup, FA Vase and League Cups.
Hashtag United are joint-leaders alongside Cockfosters having won their first 4 games. The Tags have beaten Ilford, Hadley, Takeley and Sawbridgeworth Town while scoring 14 and conceding 5. After a 4-0 win over the Foxes, Hashtag came back from 2-1 down to beat Hadley 3-2 before they can back from a goal down to beat Takeley 3-1. Hashtag were 1-0 down to Sawbo last weekend but came back to win 4-2.
Last season, Hashtag were going for their second promotion in as many seasons having been promoted from the Eastern Counties League Division One South during the 2018/19 season. After 26 games, Hashtag were a point above Walthamstow in 2nd-place. They had won 21, drew 2 and lost 2 whilst scoring 66 and conceding 27. The Tags had lost their opening game of the season at home to Southend Manor but soon put that behind them with a 9-game winning run with wins over Tower Hamlets, St Margaretsbury, Sawbo, Ilford, Stansted, Fosters, Hoddesdon, Takeley and Clapton. Hashtag won a further 12, drew 2 and lost 2.
The clubs played 3 games last season in 2 different competitions. All 3-games were won by Hashtag. They had 3-1 in the Gordon Brasted Trophy before they won 1-0 at the Lodge in the league following a Josh Osude goal before they narrowly won the reverse fixture in testing conditions, winning 2-1.
It will be a tough game for both sides. Hashtag have found a way to win in all four games whilst Walthamstow have struggled at home with two losses. It should be a good game.
