Walthamstow will welcome ESL newcomers Hashtag United to Wadham Lodge on Tuesday for their first-ever meeting as they take part in the Gordon Brasted Trophy.
Despite being eliminated from the FA Cup and the Essex Senior League, Walthamstow’s record this season is pretty incredible. Having played 12 games so far in 4 different competitions, they’ve won 7, drawn twice and lost twice whilst scoring 28 and conceding 7.
Hashtag United are only in their second season as an established football team having been a Youtube team right up until the start of last season. Taking an unconventional route into the football pyramid, The Tags having done pretty well so far. They were promoted in their first season as a non-league team and currently sit in 3rd in the ESL having won 5 and lost 1 out of the 6 games they’ve played.
Speaking after Saturday’s game, Ryan Maxwell said he’d give the players a well-deserved rest after their testing week and mentioned that he’d field a very youthful team while also possibly given himself minutes. As respectful as he can be, the Gordon Brasted trophy is not one of Stow’s priorities as their target is to do well in the league and possibly the FA Vase. This game will allow him to play some of the Ryan FC boys as well as those who haven’t featured much.
If Hashtag field their strongest team then its obvious they would be favourites but that doesn’t mean Walthamstow won’t give it a good go as they did against West Essex in the ESC whilst also fielding a youthful team.
Get down to Wadham Lodge and cheer on the Stow!
