Stow’s biggest game of the season takes place on Saturday as they welcome current-league leaders Hashtag United to East London. The winner of the tie will sit top with Hashtag being able to pull 4 points ahead whilst Walthamstow can pull 2 ahead.
Walthamstow have had an incredible season so far and will be looking to push on against another tough side. They got back to winning ways last weekend with a 7-0 thrashing of Southend Manor after the disappointing loss to Takeley just the Tuesday before. The Stags record this season has seen them win 11, draw 2 and lose 1 of their 14 games whilst scoring 43 and conceding 5.
The season began with a 7-0 win over Tower Hamlets before going on a 12-game unbeaten run after beaten Stansted, Ilford, Cockfosters, St Margaretsbury, Redbridge, Southend Manor, Enfield, Woodford Town and beating Tower Hamlets for a second time whilst drawing with Hadley and Saffron Walden Town. The unbeaten run came to an end at home to Takeley, who managed to nick a goal at the end of the game after a defensive game-plan. Ryan Maxwell’s side managed to put the defeat behind them and respond with their second 7-0 of the season.
Walthamstow’s opponents have also had an incredible start to the season. In only their second season as a ‘football team’ after leaving the lone world on YouTube, Hashtag currently sit 1 point ahead of Stow in 1st-place. Their record has seen them win 12 and lose twice whilst scoring 39 and conceding 14.
Their season didn’t get off to the best of starts when they lost 2-0 to Southend Manor. Having put that defeat behind them, they went on a 10-game winning run after beating Tower Hamlets, Redbridge, St Margaretsbury, Sawbridgeworth Town, Ilford, Stansted, Cockfosters, Hoddesdon Town, Takeley and Clapton before seeing that run ended by Sporting Bengal United. Despite the loss, they’ve won their last two beating Enfield 5-2 and West Essex 3-0.
It should a great game with two very attack-minded sides battling for top spot.
