Preview: Walthamstow vs London Lions

For the second time this season, Walthamstow will welcome London Lions to Wadham London in another FA Competition. The first meeting between the two-sides was in the FA Cup Extra Preliminary Round.

Walthamstow progressed to the Second Qualifying Round of the FA Vase with a shootout win over Harwich & Parkeston of the Eastern Counties League Division One South. The hosts had taken the lead before a 90th-minute goal from Jon Clements send the game to penalties. Stow beat the Step-6 side 5-4 after keeper Conor Sansom saved the first spot-kick he faced. The Stags also sit 4th in the Essex Senior League after 6-games having beaten Sporting Bengal United, West Essex, Hashtag United and Woodford Town whilst losing to Stansted and Southend Manor and had a good run in the FA Cup, reaching the Second Qualifying Round but the run was brought to an end by Step-3 Hornchurch.

Walthamstow’s 2019/20 run in the Vase started in the First Round Proper as they went up against Spartan South Midlands League Premier Division side Broadfields United. The Stags were victorious, winning 3-1, before they were drawn at home to AFC Uckfield Town in the Second Round Proper. The clubs run was ended against the Step-5 side as Stow were defeated 3-2.

London Lions start their FA Vase journey in this round. The London side sit 3rd in the Spartan South Midlands League Division One. They drew with Shefford Town & Campton on the opening day before winning their last 3-games against Buckingham Athletic, Langford and Stotfold. Their run in the FA Cup came to an end in the Extra Preliminary Round at the Lodge.

The Lions run in the 2019/20 FA Vase came to an end in the First Qualifying Round as they were defeated by Premier Division side Colney Heath. Colney won the game 4-0.

The game for these two sides was the first game of the season in the Extra Preliminary Round of the FA Cup. Walthamstow had to come back from 2-0 down to beat the Lions 3-2. Michael Osei had brought Stow level before two-goals from Connor Scully and Charncey Dash, a minute apart, was enough for the win. This will be another tough game.
