Walthamstow’s scheduled game against Redbridge was switched to the Lodge during the week as the Oakside Stadium pitch wouldn’t be playable for the tie on Saturday. The switch means Walthamstow have a run of 3-home games, giving them a great chance to push on in the league.
Walthamstow find themselves 5th following their win over Sporting Bengal United last weekend, getting their 7th win of the season. The win was added to their wins over Bengal on the opening day as well as victories over West Essex, Hashtag United, Woodford Town, Sawbridgeworth Town and Saffron Walden Town while the Stags have already faced defeat to Stansted, Southend Manor and Hoddesdon Town. The 3-goals against Bengal moved the goal scored up to 27 while the goals conceded was kept down to 14.
Last season, Walthamstow were one of the favourites for the title. They went to battle with the Bloods and Hashtag United for the title, finding themselves 3rd when the season was brought to an end. Stow sat in 3rd with 63 points, 2 behind the Tags and 3 behind league-leaders Walden. After 26-games, they had won 20, drew 3 and lost 3 whilst scoring 73 and conceding 17.
Redbridge currently sit in 11th after 8-games, with a record of won 4, drew 1 and lost 3 whilst scoring 18 but conceding 17. The season began with a good draw for the Motormen as they held Saffron Walden Town to a draw before facing two defeats, losing 6-2 to Ilford and 3-2 to Sporting Bengal. They returned to winning ways, beating strugglers Woodford Town 2-0 before they went a further 3-games with wins, beating Enfield (4-0), Sawbridgeworth Town (1-4) and Clapton (1-2) before they suffered another defeat, this time to Saffron Walden Town, losing 4-0.
Last season, Redbridge were 8th before the season was abrupted ended. They had played 25 games, with a record of 12 wins, 2 draws and 11 losses whilst scoring 57 but conceding 56. They had games in-hand on the teams around them and could have found themselves 6th had they been able to continue.
The teams battled once last season in the league as Walthamstow won 2-1 at the Lodge. Both sides will want to get another win under their belts as Redbridge could rise to 9th with games in-hand while Stow could find themselves 3rd with games in-hand on both Saffron Walden and Cockfosters. It should be a great game.
