Walthamstow continue their pre-season with another home game as they welcome Welwyn Garden City to the Lodge. The Southern League side will prove another tough test for the Stags but it will be the first game in which supporters may be allowed.
Stow have recorded 2 wins and 3 losses from their 2020/21 pre-season so far. It began with a 2-1 win over Harpenden Town at the Lodge before a 2-0 loss to Bearsted and a narrow 3-2 loss to Wingate & Finchley. It was back to winning ways as they beat Halstead Town by 2 goals to one before losing at the Lodge to Barking by a single goal.
Welwyn Garden City began their pre-season with a 1-1 draw with Harefield United before a visit to the London Tigers saw the Southern League side walk away with a 5-2 victory. The side then faced Royston Town but lost 4-1 before putting that in the back of their minds with a 4-0 victory over Oxhey Jets. With those run of results, it means WGC have won 2, drew 1 and lost 1 ahead of the clash with Stow.
Although Walthamstow have suffered defeats in this pre-season, Max Mitchell has seen some good signs of what is to come. The majority of the team was put together over the summer and have been training together for a matter of months ahead of the new season. At the moment, results are not everything and whilst the players may want to win, it is important they build relationships with each other as well.
The fazed return of supporters could also really help Walthamstow. It will be the first time some of the new players have heard and seen the supporters so it will feel more like a non-league matchday. Please check Walthamstowfc.com for any news regarding the return of fans.
It should be a good game!
