Preview: Walthamstow vs West Essex (Essex Senior Cup)

Walthamstow will welcome West Essex to Wadham Lodge on Tuesday for an Essex Senior Cup match. The kick-off for this one is 7.45pm.

Walthamstow remain unbeaten in all competitions so far this season and will look to carry on their good form. Wins in the Essex Senior League against Tower Hamlets and Stansted and a draw against Hadley see Stow sit 7th on 7 points behind Takeley, Saffron Walden, Cockfosters, Hadley and Hashtag United but with several games in hand over the teams above whilst wins in the FA Cup against Sporting Bengal, Great Wakering and Aylesbury United see Stow await their opponents for the second qualifying round.

West Essex also remain unbeaten in the league this season having only played three games. A draw on the opening day with Saffron Walden and two wins over Woodford Town put West Essex in 8th on 7 points, just behind Stow on goal difference. Other than league action so far, they featured in the FA Cup were eliminated from the competition by Whitton United in the Extra Preliminary round. West Essex also featured in the FA Vase (first qualifying round) and were level at 1-1 with Park View before the game was abandoned three minutes from time due to a serious injury before a replay of the match saw them advance with a 4-1 win.

Both sides are yet to lose a game in the league although cup action hasn’t been kind to West Essex so it’s difficult to pick a favourite for this game. As Stow are on of the favourites for the league and managed to beat Great Wakering and Aylesbury United in the FA Cup, many would consider them favourites for this game. The teams did face each other in the ESL last season and it was Walthamstow who took all 6 points; a 5-1 win away at the start of the season and a 1-0 win at home just before Christmas.

It should be a great game between the two Essex League sides as they look to reach the next round. Get down to Wadham Lodge and support the Stow!
