Following last Sunday’s 5-1 win in the FA Cup, it’s back on the road for Harlow Town as they travel back to Norfolk to take on Wroxham Women.
Harlow Town are sat in 6th-place after 3-games, having won 2 and lost one. The season began with victory over Peterborough Northern Star, winning 3-2 after finding themselves 2-0 down. It was 2 out of 2 when the Hawks beat Royston Town 5-1 at home before the run was brought to an end by Wymondham who grabbed a win at Kett’s Park. Harlow have also made it through to the 3rd Qualifying Round of the FA Cup with a 6-0 win over Runwell Sports, before beating Colney Heath 4-3, Bowers 1-0 and St Ives 5-1.
Last season, Harlow were top-of-the-league after 15-games having been unbeaten. Despite a draw on the opening day against Wymondham Town, the Hawks went on an 11-game winning run, whilst scoring 65 goals and whilst conceding 15. The winning run was brought to an end but they still remained unbeaten as they drew 2-2 with St Ives Town before winning a further two-games before the season was cut short. They didn’t have the chance to play the remaining 7-games as tests against Luton Town, Peterborough Northern Star and two against both Colney Heath and Royston Town awaited the Hawks.
Wroxham are 4th with the same record as Harlow after winning 2 and losing 1. They began the season with a 4-3 win over Bowers & Pitsea at home before facing their first defeat of the season as they were beaten 2-1 away to Luton Town. That was put right though as they won their last game against Haringey Borough at home, winning 5-2. The Yachtswomen also had a good run in the FA Cup. Starting in the Extra Preliminary Round, they defeated Kettering Town 10-0 before facing King’s Lynn Town, who they defeated 7-3 away from home. Their run fell apart in the 1st Qualifying Round as they were beaten 5-0 away to Luton Town with the Hatters defeating Wroxham for the second time.
Last season, Wroxham were 8th after playing just 12-games. They began the season with two-wins as they beat Bedford and Wymondham Town before their first defeat came at the hands of Harlow Town. They went 5-games unbeaten after their defeat as they beat St Ives, Haringey Borough, Colney Heath and Bowers and drew with Bedford before they were defeated again by the Hawks. Despite a 1-0 victory over Haringey Borough, their last two-games of the season were two losses to Luton Town as the Hatters scored 4 and conceded none. They didn’t have the chance to play 10-games as both ties against Peterborough Northern Star, AFC Dunstable and Royston as well as ties against Colney Heath, St Ives Town, Bowers & Pitsea and Wymondham were all schedule for after the season was voided.
Both games last season in the league were won by Harlow. The away fixture, which was the 3rd game of the season, was won by 4 goals to one as goals from Chloe Bassett, Lucy Edmeades, Abbey Dell and Olivia Steele all cancelled out a goal from Grace Birchall before the home tie was won 5-2 as Chloe Bassett and Olivia Steele’s braces as well as a goal from Becky Shepard were enough despite goals from Rhianne Brister and Kirstie Kindred. With both sides strengthening in the summer, this will certainly be a tough game.
