After progressing in the FA Cup, Harlow’s attention are back to league action as they travel to Norfolk to face top-of-the-table Wymondham Town.

Harlow currently sit 3rd after 2-games with 6-points on the board. They began the season with a trip to Peterborough, coming back from 2-0 down to win 3-2 against Peterborough Northern Star. Ash Deacon pulled the Hawks back into the game on the stroke of half-time before a Fran Gamble brace, including the 86th-minute winner, was enough for the 3-points. The second game of the season saw Harlow beat a strong Royston side 5-1 at home. A brace from Tayla Handscombe as well as goals for Ellie Manning, Amy Nash and Georgia Raby helped Harlow onto a big win. They have also progressed to the 2nd Qualifying Round of the FA Women’s Cup with a 6-0 win over Runwell Sports, a 4-3 win over Colney Heath and a well-fought 1-0 win over Bowers & Pitsea.

Last season, Harlow were on course for the title, sitting top-of-the-league and 6-points clear of 2nd-place Luton Town. After 15 games, they had won 13 and drew 2 but with the season being null & voided, they didn’t have the chance to play the remaining 7-games and they were denied the title and a place in the National League.

Wymondham Town are currently top-of-the-league, having played an extra game over Harlow but winning all-3 they played. They began their league campaign with a 3-1 win over Bedford Ladies away from home. Goals from Chelsea Clarke, Katie Knights and Laura Nicholls helped them to beat Bedford before two wins at home saw them maintain their perfect start to the season; a 7-0 thrashing of AFC Dunstable as well as a 4-1 over Conley Health. Laura Nicholls helped herself to a brace of Dunstable whilst Katie Knights, Rebecca Russell, Freya Symonds, Alice Collins and Hannah Waters added to the tally and goals Clarke, Mollie O’Callaghan, Natasha Youngs and Francesca Catchpole were enough against Colney. They were also knocked out of the FA Cup by Newmarket Town Ladies in the Extra Preliminary Round.

Last season, Wymondham sat 17-points behind Harlow in 5th-place having won 7, drew 3 and lost 4 of their 14-games. They had plenty of games over Bedford (5 in total) and only sat 3-points behind the 4th-placed side. They also didn’t have the chance to play 8-games which included some huge games against the likes of Luton Town, Bedford, and Peterborough Northern Star.

These teams battled twice last season. The first game of the season was a trip to Norfolk where the spoils were shared in a 1-1 draw. Mia Etheridge scoring for the hosts whilst Beth Chambers ensured the points were shared. The second game at the Harlow Town Arena in November saw Harlow win 4-3. Goals from Jacqueline Bell, Katie Knights and Laura Nicholls wasn’t enough for the visitors as a brace from Becky Shephard as well as goals from Chloe Bassett and Fran Gamble sealed the win.

This will no doubt be a tough game as last season showed but it should be a good game.
