There was only one Senior League fixture this weekend as the majority of clubs took part in the Second Qualifying Round of the FA Vase.

Stansted moved up to 3rd as they beat Saffron Walden in the only Essex Senior League game. Moses Carvalho broke the deadlock in the 18th-minute with a close range strike before Walden equalised through Billy Jones as he tucked a ball into the bottom corner. It looked like it would end in a draw before Connor Hammond struck in the 91st minute, putting in Ash Siddik’s cross in at the back-post.

The Vase saw 7 teams progress as Woodford Town and West Essex were eliminated. West Essex welcomed Haverill Rovers to Mayesbrook Park on Friday Night. Hakim Medfai thought he had given West the lead but it was ruled out for offside before George Fairhead did put them ahead. The visitors equalised following an own goal but Michael Mignot put the hosts ahead a minute later. West Essex were reduced to 10-men on the half-hour mark but they extended their lead with less men. Despite looking comfortable, goals in the 80th, 82nd and 83rd minute for the visitors saw them shock West and progress.

Hadley, Ilford and Cockfosters progressed on penalties as they drew 1-1. The bricks came up against Enfield Borough. Billy Baird put Hadley ahead in the second-half before Enfield Borough equalised with almost the last kick of the game. It was the visitors afternoon though as they bowed out of the competition, losing 8-7 on penalties. Ilford found themselves 1-0 down at half-time to Benfleet.  Yemi Adelani equalised for the foxes and the game went to penalties. Ilford held their nerve as they won 4-3 on penalties. Cockfosters travelled to the New River where they took on Park View. The game finished 2-2 and went to penalties, where Fosters held their nerve, and progressed winning 4-2.

Hashtag United won big as they thrashed Step-6 Wormley Rovers 5-0. George Smith opened the scoring after just 5-minutes before he doubled the Tags lead in the 18th. The lead was extended 11-minutes later as Harry Honesty tapped in from close range before another first-half goal (this time from Jesse Waller Lassen) and a second-half goal from Josh Osude helped Hashtag through.

There was also wins for Hoddesdon Town, Clapton and Walthamstow. Hoddesdon came back from a goal down to beat Woodford Town. The Woods had taken the lead and were almost two-ahead but two goals from Hoddesdon was enough to see them through. Potton United hosted Clapton as the visitors progressed. United had taken the lead in the 5th-minute and lead for the majority of the game. Clapton equalised in the 61st minute before leaving it late to win the game. They took the lead in the 75th-minute and scored a third in the 84th minute. Stow were also victorious winning 3-1 at home against London Lions. A debut goal for Monsheju had given Stow the lead before Michael Toner scored a penalty to put Stow 2-0 ahead. The visitors pulled one back in just before the break but Ibe restored Stow’s 2-goal lead with a volley which was enough to see them through.

Sporting Bengal United were also eliminated from the FA Vase as they were defeated by Step-6 Coggeshall United. United lead at half-time before Sporting Bengal equalised. It’s wasn’t long before Coggeshall had taken a 2-goal lead before a late Bengal goal wasn’t enough.
