There are new leaders in the Eastern Region Women’s Football League as Peterborough Northern Star were victorious while St Ives Town, Luton Town and Haringey Borough were also on the end of wins this weekend.
Peterborough leap-frogged Wymondham Town to take the lead in the race for the title by a +4 goal-difference as they beat AFC Dunstable 7-2. Katie Stewart was on form for the hosts as she scored 5-goals while Dunstable missed a penalty and conceded 3-goals in the final 15-minutes to end any challenge from them.
St Ives Town closed the gap on Wymondham with a victory of their own as they beat Bedford on the road. Ruth Fox had given the Saints a half-time lead before a goal from Rebecca Baldry and another from Fox gave the visitors a good win.
Luton Town had to fight back from a goal down at Bowers & Pitsea to win 2-1 as they moved up to 7th. Bowers lead from early, scoring in the second-minute, as Eloise Ives poked home and they looked set to gain another huge victory until the Hatters scored two goals in the space of a minute to take all 3-points.
Haringey Borough picked up another huge 3-points and rose to 8th in the table as they edged Wroxham 2-1. Having taken a 2-0 lead, Borough looked in control and a goal from the Yachtswomen weren’t enough for a point at Coles Park.
