Tough tie in the Cup

On Sunday, Harlow Town Ladies won their 5th game of this season’s FA Women’s Cup as they scraped past Royston Town Women in the 3rd Qualifying Round. The Hawks had taken a 3-0 lead after 51-minutes but an unlikely comeback from the Crows was completed in the 93rd minute, sending the game to penalties.

Despite Georgia Box having her spot-kick saved, a big save from Sarah Walker and a missed one for the visitors, allowed Captain Kaydee King to step-up and slot into the bottom corner to send the Hawks through.

Having already beaten Runwell Sports, Colney Heath, Bowers & Pitsea, St Ives Town and Royston Town, the draw sees Harlow face one of the hardest of the First Round Proper as they drew Ipswich Town Women at Home. Ipswich Town reached the 5th Round Proper last season and faced Women’s Super League side Manchester City, although, their run was brought to an end with a 10-0 loss against the top division side.

With Lockdown 2 looming over Non-League and Grassroots football, it is unlikely this game will be played before Christmas or even the New Year. The draw has been made but not the schedule!
