The latest round of the Essex Senior League provided some shocks as their were wins for Hashtag United, Hoddesdon Town, Redbridge, Sporting Bengal United, Takeley and Hadley.
Monday Night saw Hashtag pick up another 3-points as they went level with leaders Cockfosters ahead of their game with Ilford. The Tags went up against Woodford Town who were looking for their first points of the season. Samraj Gill had given Hashtag the lead when his cross looped over the keeper before George Smith had doubled their lead in the 71st-minute. The Woods had plenty of chances but couldn’t take them as they slumped to their 7th defeat of the season.
The two shocks of the night saw both Walthamstow and Stansted drop points. Stansted were defeated 3-1 by Sporting Bengal United at home whilst Walthamstow were defeated 4-2 away to Hoddesdon Town. The Airportmen took the lead in the first-half. They were awarded a penalty which was missed before the rebound was tucked home. Madhi Khan brought Bengal level before Stansted rattled the bar and and the visitors missed an open goal. Joel Ramos lobbed the keeper before he scored his brace as he rounded the keeper and slotted home. Walthamstow also took the lead as Jason Beck headed in a corner at the back post. Despite taking the lead, goals from Frazer John, Kardan Campbell, Ben Quarrington-Carter and Cyrus Babaie had put the hosts 4-1 ahead. Connor Scully pulled one back but it wasn’t enough.
Wins for Redbridge and Takeley saw them move up the table. Redbridge were victors over Sawbridgeworth Town whilst Takeley beat Clapton 5-1. The Motormen had taken a 3-0 lead through Darnel Bromfield, Ayub Kadiri and James Barlow before Sawbo pulled one back. Terry Amoafo scored their fourth as the Robins dropped to 11th. Takeley picked up only their second win of the season. Braces from Lewis Deamer and Coby Miles as well as a another goal were enough for Takeley despite a goal from Matthew Bentley for the visitors.
Hadley continued their good start to the season as they beat West Essex 2-0. The win means they have won 5 and drew one, taking them up to 3rd and 3-points behind both Hashtag United and Cockfosters. Goals from Shehzad and Jordan Edwards were enough for the the Bricks.
Enfield also picked up a good point against Saffron Walden Town. Olly Miles had given the E’s the lead in the second-half before Gavin Cockman equalised 5-minutes later as he rounded the keeper and slotted home. With no further goals, the spoils were shared.
The only game on Wednesday Night saw Ilford host leaders Cockfosters at Cricklefield. Mo Kargbo had given the foxes the lead but a goal from the visitors just after the half-hour mark meant the spoils were shared as Fosters remain top by a single point.
