With the Eastern Region Women’s Football Premier Division back this weekend, there were some big results as Peterborough Northern Star, Colney Heath, Wroxham and St Ives Town all won whilst Luton Town bowed out of the FA Women’s Cup.
Bowers stayed bottom of the league as they tasted defeat against a strong Peterborough side who closed the gap on Wymondham Town to 3-point. A goal from Whitney Locke wasn’t enough for the hosts as Jessica Driscoll, Jessica Price and Cassie Stewart all scored to give Star a 3-1 win and their 5th of the season.
Wymondham failed to maintain their lead at the top-of-the-table as they were beaten on the road against Colney Heath. Both Mia Pinkham and Nicola Puddick were on target for the Magpies as they rose to 4th in the table. Mollie O’Callaghan pulled one back for the away side but it wasn’t enough.
Both St Ives Town and Wroxham were victorious as they beat Dunstable and Royston Respectively. Goals from Kate Stancombe and Elisabeth Manuel had give the Saints a 2-0 lead before Jodi McClelland and Rachael Mumford brought the game level. Georgie Stancombe restored the hosts lead before Ruth Fox added a fourth in the second half while Wroxham scored 5 to beat Royston Town. The Crows scored 3 but it wasn’t enough as a Grace Birchall quadruple as well as a goal from Lauren Bullard gave 10-women Wroxham a huge win as they leap-frogged Harlow into 5th.
It was Luton’s day either as they were defeated by National League Enfield in the 3rd Qualifying Round of the FA Women’s Cup. The Hatters took the lead from the spot in the first half before a brace from Beau Parker was enough to send the visitors through to the First Round Proper. The loss means Harlow Town are the sole flag-flyers for the Eastern Region Women’s Football League in this years FA Cup.
